Empowering the Next Generation of Bitcoin Researchers​
Are you an undergraduate student passionate about the future of money, financial inclusion, and Bitcoin’s socio-economic impacts? The Bitcoin Policy Institute’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program is a unique 8-week virtual research internship designed to provide hands-on experience in cutting-edge Bitcoin research.

Program Highlights​

Format: Online, with an in-person colloquium at our Washington, DC headquarters

Duration: 8 weeks (June 9–August 8)

Participants: 5 undergraduate students from STEM, economics, philosophy, policy, and related fields

Support: Travel stipend provided for research participation

Weekly virtual research workshops with Bitcoin Policy Institute staff and guest mentors

One-on-one mentorship to guide independent research projects

Opportunities to publish white papers, policy briefs, and presentation

To be considered for the Bitcoin Policy Institute REU program, applicants must submit the following materials:

1. Completed Application Form
Fill out the official REU application form, including personal details, academic background, and research interests.
2. Personal Statement (1 page maximum)
A statement addressing:

Your interest in the Bitcoin Policy Institute REU program
-
How your academic background and experiences have prepared you for this research opportunity
-
Your research interests and potential alignment with the program’s focus areas
-
Your career goals and how participation in this REU will support them
3. Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Include your education, research experience (if any), relevant coursework, technical skills, and any honors, awards, or extracurricular activities related to the program.
4. Transcript(s)
Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

5. Letters of Recommendation (1-2)
At least one PDF-formatted and signed letter from a professor, research advisor, or professional mentor who can speak to your academic abilities, research potential, and commitment to learning.
6. Statement of Research Interests (500 words maximum)
Applicants should briefly describe their research interests and specific questions they hope to explore within the Bitcoin Policy Institute’s focus areas. This information will help match students with mentors who specialize in their chosen topics, ensuring a balanced distribution of research areas among participants. Additionally, applicants should outline their expected research deliverable(s), such as an academic paper, white paper, policy report, or another project outcome, to set clear expectations and align with the program's objectives.
